Vic: Woman and daughter escape housefire; causes $500,000 damage
Firefighters say a woman and her daughter are lucky to have escaped a fire that broke
out at their house in Melbourne's west today.
A spokesman says the blaze, which started about 1am (AEST) at the single storey weatherboard
home in Kew, is estimated to have caused $500,000 in damage.
The spokesman says the fire started in a back room of the house and quickly spread
to the roof and other rooms.
Firefighters managed to stop the blaze spreading to the front of the house and to adjoining
properties.
The 42-year-old woman was treated for smoke inhalation and shock and her 15-year-old
daughter for deep cuts to her legs.
Their pet dog had not been found early this morning.
The fire is not being treated as suspicious.
